ABOUT OUR ACCOMPANIST- JULIA DYCK

Julia grew up in Langley, BC and moved to Sexsmith, AB when she was 17 years old, where she currently lives with her husband. Most of Julia's formative years of music training took place within the lower mainland, where she was involved in playing violin and piano in the Abbotsford Youth Orchestra, singing in the Pacific Mennonite Children's Choir and occasionally with the Trinity Western University choir, and performing solo piano and voice selections for the Kiwanis Music Festival for multiple years. She began learning piano at the age of 7, took up violin at the age of 10, and progressed to level 10 RCM in piano and level 8 RCM by the time she was 17. At this time, Julia's family made the big move to Alberta, putting her musical goals on hold, but gradually she found herself back in music again when she attended Peace River Bible Institute, graduating with a Bachelor of Biblical Studies in 2018. During her time at PRBI, Julia sang in the student choir, accompanied the choir for three years, and toured with a music team as a singer and keyboardist. In 2022-2023, she was hired by Northwestern Polytechnic University to be the accompanist for the Oriana Girls’ Choir, where she performed in concerts and entered the Grande Prairie Music Festival with them. Julia now teaches piano privately in her home and takes every opportunity she can to grow in and share her passion for music.
